Margie Peterson

December 25, 1944 — December 28, 2024

Margie F. Peterson, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 28, 2024, just a few days after celebrating her 80th birthday. Margie was born on December 25, 1944, and throughout her life, she embodied kindness, warmth, and a genuine love for those around her.

She is survived by her beloved children: Andrea (Ryan) Kenney, Paul (Andrea) Peterson, Mandy (Casey) Carns, and Marsha (Adam) Kenney. Margie was the proud grandmother of Morgan (Jackson) Lazor, Laken Frye, Gracen Kenney, Elle Kenney, Allie (Ryan) Maraffi, Nathan Peterson, Sophie and Scarlett Carns, and Evelyn and Isaac Kenney. Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Atlas and Aria, who will remember her gentle love and guidance.

Margie is also survived by her dear sisters, Doris Hershberger and Ellen Golden, who will carry forth the memories of their time together. She shared a special bond with her best friend, Penny, her little dog whose loyalty mirrored Margie's own devoted spirit.

Margie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew Peterson, and her parents, Orlando and Clara (Stayrook) Peterson. Their memories will always be cherished and remembered fondly.

A devoted member of the Centennial United Methodist Church in Johnstown, Margie found immeasurable joy in her faith and community. Her sweet spirit was evident in her interactions, where she was known to be welcoming and honest. She dedicated part of her career to the Ligonier Valley Learning Center, where her love for teaching and nurturing young minds shone brightly, and after a rich tenure, she retired from there, leaving behind a legacy of care and compassion.

Margie’s memories are interwoven with love as she embraced every moment spent with her family. Her greatest joy came from sharing adventures and camping trips with her beloved family, creating moments filled with laughter and love. Game nights were a sacred tradition, where Margie's playful spirit delighted her grandkids, fostering bonds that will last a lifetime.

As we grieve the loss of Margie F. Peterson, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived. Her kindness, devotion, and love have left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone who knew her. A viewing will be held at Snyder-Green Funeral Home in Ligonier on January 1, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service to honor her life will take place the following day, January 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Internment to follow at Ligonier Valley Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margie’s name to the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, 5324 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Margie will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever remain with her family, an everlasting bond of love and cherished memories.
