Lawrence A. Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on September 22, 1951, in Maryland, he was a dedicated and kind-hearted individual who made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.
Lawrence is survived by his devoted wife, Marjorie Ulery; his loving daughter, Angela Wtorkiewicz; his son-in-law, Valentine Wtorkiewicz; and his cherished grandson, Tristan Wtorkiewicz. He is also remembered fondly by many cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends who shared in the joys and memories of the family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Smith, who will forever remain a part of his legacy in the hearts of his family.
Lawrence began his career in data processing, showcasing his talents first at Westmoreland Computer, followed by positions at Southwest Bank, and ultimately at First Commonwealth Bank. His professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence and a collaborative spirit that endeared him to colleagues and clients alike.
He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he laid the foundation for his successful career. Lawrence was not only a professional but also a family man at heart. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, consistently putting family first. His warm and welcoming personality made those around him feel at ease, and his great sense of humor brought joy and laughter into countless gatherings.
Outside of his career, Lawrence had varied interests that enriched his life. He enjoyed gardening, taking pleasure in nurturing plants and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Birdwatching was another of his passions, allowing him to connect with nature and observe wildlife. He also had a profound appreciation for music and was a devoted supporter of his grandson, Tristan, attending his sporting events with pride.
Lawrence A. Smith's kindness, dedication to family, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed. His life serves as a reminder of the importance of love, laughter, and the cherished moments shared with those we hold dear.
Per his wishes there will not be any services, memorials or a funeral. The family asks that you plant a tree or flowers in his honor. Please also listen to music loudly, sing along, take time to watch some birds and name one Larry, cheer on the Steelers, and most of all think of him often with a smile on your face and love in your heart.
