Joseph G. Avolio, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024 in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Born on March 27, 1954, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, Joe leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love that touched the lives of many.
Throughout his life, Joseph was known for his caring nature and devotion to his family and friends. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and was a familiar face at the Abigail’s Coffee House Saturday mornings with his coffee club friends. Joseph found joy in the simple moments, often found hanging out on the family patio with his beloved shelties Sydney and Stella.
Joe started his career at 16 along side his dad at Arlington Shoe & Repair in Jeannette. In 1973, Joseph earned a degree from Delgado Community College in New Orleans, marking the beginning of a successful career as an Orthotist with Hanger Clinic in Pittsburgh. Among his proudest accomplishments was achieving the 3rd degree with the Knights of Columbus Post 1222 and belonged to the M&S club of Jeannette.
Outside of work, Joseph had a variety of interests that brought him happiness. He enjoyed activities such as golfing, bowling, bocci, biking with his wife, in Ohio Pyle and making pizza on the grill. These hobbies reflected his zest for life and sense of adventure.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Houser) Avolio, and his father-in-law, Edward Semenko. He is survived by his loving wife Michele (Semenko) Avolio, son David Avolio (Gina Higgs), step-daughters Ashley Cerda (Jeremy Wolfe) and Katie Marsh (Andrew), grandson William Avolio (Renee), sisters Sandie Dietrich, Mary Jo Kramer (John), Judi Wood (George), brothers Michael Avolio (Jennilee) and Scott Avolio (Kimberly), mother-in-law Cheryl Semenko, sisters-in-law Thelma Ponitz (Walter), Dawn Semenko, Carla Payer (Rob), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation to honor Joe will take place on Wednesday May 15th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Snyder-Green Funeral Home 402 E. Church St. in Ligonier. The funeral service will take place on Thursday May 16th at 10:00 AM in Covenant Presbyterian Church, Ligonier.
Joseph G. Avolio will be dearly missed but never forgotten; may he rest in peace as his memory lives on through those who knew and loved him.
