Glenn F. Welshons, a cherished member of the Ligonier community, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on December 22, 1936, in Fairfield Township, Glenn lived a life dedicated to service, family, and the community he dearly loved.
His family was of utmost importance to him. Glenn is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Charlotte C. (Rose) Welshons. He was a loving father to Charlene A. Welshons and Kevin L. (Edie) Welshons , and he cherished the time spent with his beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Rose Welshons of Latrobe. Glenn is also survived by his two sisters, Jean (Richard) Weygant of North Huntington and Mary Lou Farrell of Ligonier, as well as his cherished brother, John (Evelyn) Welshons of Fairfield Township. Beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Lemon Welshons, his mother, Helen (Dennison) Welshons, his brother, Gerald Allen (Jean) Welshons, and his sister, Margaret (Levi) Petrucci.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Glenn served as an Electrician's Mate Second Class Petty Officer with VP-28 stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. His dedication to serving others continued long after his military tenure, culminating in a distinguished career as the Chief of Police in Ligonier Township, from which he retired in August 1999.
Glenn was not only a respected officer but also a faithful member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he built lasting relationships and contributed to the church community. He loved to read and was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoying the open road and the rush of the wind.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the viewings at Snyder-Green Funeral Home, located at 402 E Church St., Ligonier, PA 15658, on February 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Ligonier Valley Honor Guard will perform honors at 7:00 PM. A funeral service honoring Glenn's life will take place at the same location on February 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Rev. Jonathan C. Adams will officiate the service.
Glenn Welshons will be remembered not just for his service to his country and community, but also for the love and joy he brought to the lives of those around him. His legacy of dedication, love, and camaraderie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
