Gary "Tippy" P. Dye, Age 79, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2023 surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Sarah (Green) Dye. Loving father of Gary "TJ", Jr. (Mary Pat) Dye. and Eric (Tammy) Dye. Cherished grandfather of Tyler (Lara), Samantha, Cody, Sydney and Jack. Loving brother of Georgeanne (James) Stitt and uncle of 8 nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents George and Rebecca ( O'Hagan) Dye He was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Penn Hills, PA. Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Slippery Rock; Masters' degree in Special Education and Rehabilitation from University of Pittsburgh; and, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Special Education and Administration from Johns Hopkins University. He spent over 35 years working with special populations, beginning with the Greater Pittsburgh Guild for the Blind; taught special education in Baltimore City, administered special needs programs for the State of Maryland; and United Cerebral Palsy affiliates in Maryland and Illinois. Later in life he was a licensed real estate agent. He eventually opened All Around Athletes sporting goods and collectibles store on the Ligonier Diamond. He adored his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He enjoyed coaching, umpiring & refereeing basketball and baseball for his sons and watching his grandchildren in their sports. As they grew up and began their professional lives, he wanted to hear every detail of their latest adventures. He was so proud of their many accomplishments. Sports played an important part throughout his life beginning with little league. This passion continued as he lettered in high school sports and played baseball for Slippery Rock. After college, he turned to softball and played until age 74. In 2007, he was inducted into the Maryland Softball Hall of Fame. He felt it was important to be involved in the community and volunteered by coaching children's teams through the Ligonier YMCA and was a member of the committee that developed the Ligonier Valley Trail. He enjoyed working in the yard and playing with his dogs or sitting on the porch watching the birds. He began each day with the newspaper and ended each day with a book. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to your favorite charity.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 17, from 6-8 PM at the Snyder-Green Funeral Home, Inc., 402 E Church Street, Ligonier, PA 15658 (724-238-2611), A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 11:00 AM.
