Ethel Ramsey Murphy

Ethel Ramsey Murphy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 at home. She was born Ethel Sylvia Neiderhiser on September 3, 1931, in Ligonier. Ethel was a graduate of Ligonier Valley High School Class of 1949. She dedicated her life to her family and community. Known for her warm and loving nature, Ethel cherished her time with her loved ones. Throughout her life, Ethel was actively involved in various organizations and activities. She volunteered at Westmoreland Regional Hospital and was a staff member of Widowed Persons #39’s of Youngwood. Additionally, she served as a member of the election board of Hempfield Township. Ethel enjoyed planning and going on tours, crafting, serving others, and hospitality. A lifetime member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Ethel served as a pianist and held several offices within the church. She was also active in the local United Methodist Women'’s group and served as a Greensburg district officer of United Methodist Women.

Ethel is preceded in death by her father Byron Neiderhiser and mother Lucinda (Shaulis) Neiderhiser, four sisters and two brothers. Loving wife of the late first husband Robert G. Ramsey of over 48 years. Together they raised four children: Anita Peach (Richard) of Broadhead, WI; Beverly Nelson (Joe) of Ligonier, PA;Robert Allen Ramsey (Lori) of Ligonier, PA; Cheryl Maholage of North Huntingdon, PA. Cherished wife of her late second husband Robert A. Murphy with bonus children Susie, Dianne, Tommy & Sandy(deceased). In addition to her surviving children, Ethel is survived by twelve grandchildren. Unfortunately, two grandchildren have passed away: Corrina Anne Peach (1979-2013) and Christina Marie Sindorf (1974-2024). She was also a great grandmother of twenty: Anita (6), Bev (2), Bobby (7), Cheryl (5).

The visitation will be held at Snyder-Green Funeral Home in Ligonier on August 9th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Rev. Chuck Shaffer assisted by Rev. Jeff Popson on August 10th at 10:00 AM.

Ethel will be dearly missed by all who knew her but will forever be remembered for her kind spirit and loving presence.
