Dan R. McDowell, a beloved figure in his community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 15, 1930, in Bolivar, Pennsylvania, Dan lived a life rich in love and commitment to his family.
He is survived by his sons David McDowell, Joseph McDowell, and Daniel McDowell (Jennifer). As a grandfather, Dan was adored by his grandchildren: Christopher McDowell (Danielle), Corey McDowell, Lukas McDowell, and Mackenzie McDowell (Daniel Swift) of Buffalo, NY, as well as Carson McDowell, Justin McDowell, Josh McDowell, and John Michael McDowell. Dan also took great pride in being a great-grandfather to five wonderful children, creating lasting memories that they will carry forward.
Dan was preceded in death by his loving wife Jessie McDowell and his mother Anna McDowell, as well his son John McDowell and granddaughter Paige.
Throughout his life Dan exemplified a deep devotion to his loved ones, earning admiration and respect from those who knew him. He proudly served in the Army National Guard, showcasing his commitment to his country. His military service was not only a testament to his character but also shaped the many friendships he forged throughout his life.
Dan had a passion for the outdoors, finding great joy in landscaping and spending time as an avid grouse hunter. His love for nature was matched only by his joy in training dogs, activities that brought him immense satisfaction and became cherished hobbies. These interests highlighted his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Viewing services will be held on January 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Snyder-Green Funeral Home located at 402 East Church Street, Ligonier, Pennsylvania. The funeral service will take place the following day, January 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Stahlstown Trinity Community Church, located at 1582 PA-711, Stahlstown, Pennsylvania. Reverand Vickie Lynch is officiating the service.
Dan McDowell will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy of love and dedication will endure in the hearts of those he cherished.
